After more than four decades as the host of “Wheel of Fortune,” Pat Sajak announced his retirement, citing a desire to step down while still at the top of his game. In a conversation with his daughter, Maggie Sajak, he expressed, “I’d rather leave a couple of years too early than a couple of years too late.”
Sajak, who began hosting the iconic game show in 1981, felt that after over 40 years and more than 8,000 episodes, the time had come to move on. He stated, “Well, the time has come,” when announcing his decision.
Reflecting on his tenure, Sajak acknowledged the show’s enduring impact on American television and culture. He expressed gratitude to the viewers for granting him the “incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes, night after night, year after year, decade after decade.”
As he steps away from the spotlight, Sajak looks forward to enjoying other aspects of life, including spending time with family and pursuing personal interests. His departure marks the end of an era for “Wheel of Fortune,” with Ryan Seacrest set to take over as the new host.
